How Do I Clean A Kenmore Self Cleaning Oven

How to Use a Self-Cleaning Oven at ASlobComesClean.com

I was scared of using my cocky-cleaning oven.

Only I was fifty-fifty more scared of someone seeing the within of it.

When I created the Kitchen Cleaning Checklist last week, I knew it was time to take the leap and figure out how to use a self-cleaning oven.

It was easy. Not magic, but like shooting fish in a barrel. First of all, I would advise that you read over your oven's educational activity manual.  I had no idea where mine was, then I didn't.  But I did think my own female parent using hers, so I went for it.

Aye, it's a little scary.  Yeah, I warned my kids that the oven was cleaning itself and non to get likewise shut.

Basically, it works like this: The oven gets crazy-hot and burns upwardly all of the dirtiness. My oven, my female parent's oven, and I would promise ALL ovens . . . crave that the oven is locked in order for the cleaning feature to be used.  It then stays locked (it won't LET you unlock it) until information technology has cooled downward later on cleaning. (I learned from you in the comments that I should have removed the racks before cleaning!)

That picture higher up was my oven before I cleaned it.

Totally embarrassing.

After three hours on the make clean cycle, and nearly 45 minutes of cooling time, it looked like this:

Yes.  Those are ashes.

Here was the inside of the door prior to cleaning:

And afterward self-cleaning:

BIG difference.  Just non quite done.

After it was cooled completely (FINE, after a few days . . . ), I used an egg-turner to movement all the ashes together and and then wiped out the oven.

It didn't take much endeavor to wipe it out.

And I do believe it was worth it:

Quite a large difference, don't you remember?

The good:

Very little effort is required. I simply turned on the clean feature, locked it and iii hours later it was done.

Oven Cleaner is known for being one of the almost horrible chemical cleaners out there.  Using the self-cleaning feature meant I didn't have to employ any chemicals.

Although I rarely thought nigh the state of my oven unless a guest used it . . . I'm amazed at how striking the difference is.

The bad:

That kind of rut is scary. I probably wouldn't want to leave the firm while information technology was going.  (And again, read your teaching transmission!)

Although there isn't a chemical odor, you can definitely smell the burning off of the what-used-to-be-food. Might be hard for someone with animate issues.

How do y'all clean your oven? How often?

Daily in Dec daily checklist update: It'due south Tuesday and I was gone ALL twenty-four hour period.  I didn't feel like doing Whatsoever of my checklist tonight, just did clean the kitchen, kickoff the dishwasher, swept the kitchen, checked bathrooms for clutter, closed the cabinet door and did a mini-selection-upwards.  Mini is in comparing to a 5 minute one, and then not much.
